Why and in what way does movement prevent diabetes? How much physical activity is required to avoid developing the disease? These are some of the questions that are dealt with in the book Physical Activity and Diabetes. In the course of the book, the reader will acquire an understanding of how the regulation of blood sugar levels works and how training and exercising muscles affect this process. The book features animations and videos, where Professor Bente Klarlund Pedersen of Copenhagen University Hospital explains the importance of exercise for general health. The book gives the reader the opportunity to work on several levels of taxonomic classification, including analysing and evaluating physical activity in a fitness and health perspective. The book also provides an opportunity to discuss and look into the question of who is responsible for more and more people getting diabetes and how the challenge of diabetes can be dealt with. The tasks in the book encourage the student to be a producer of knowledge. The student does this by working on tasks which involve producing mind maps, written products, illustrations, collages as well as audio and video productions. The book is intended primarily for sport and physical education courses at upper secondary, high school, and college level. Parts of the book can also be used in biology classes. In this case, it should be supplemented with instruction on topics  such as carbohydrates. Finally, the book can be used in interdisciplinary courses which include the theme of health.
